February ~ Lisa Moore

2013 Winner

In 1982, the oil rig Ocean Ranger sank off the coast of Newfoundland during a Valentine’s night storm. All 84 men aboard died.  February is an incredible portrait of grief and moving on, the story of Helen O’Mara, one of those left behind when her husband, Cal, drowns. The  novel is set 25 years after the tragedy. Moore shifts the action back and forth in time to offer snapshots of Helen’s earlier years when she first met Cal to her present-day life as a grandmother.  Writing at the peak of her powers, Lisa Moore gives us her best work yet.
